What is Daylight saving time?

Daylight saving time (abbreviated DST) is the practice of adjusting clocks forward from the standard time during the summer months and turned them back to in the fall so that evening daylight lasts longer and makes better use of natural daylight to conserve energy.
Daylight saving time generally referred as daylight savings in many countries like as the United States , Canada , New Zealand and Australia and also known as British Summer Time or just summer time in some countries like as the United Kingdom and Chile .

History of Daylight Saving Time

The Daylight saving time idea was first introduced by Benjamin Franklin during his sojourn "Economical Project" as an American delegate in Paris in 1784. Basically, he explained how they could save a lot of money on candles if everyone simply awoke earlier and used the daylight saving more. Franklin didn’t explain something regarding adjusting time itself.
George Vernon Hudson proposed the idea of daylight saving in 1895.suggesting a two-hour time shift forward and two-hour shift back.
Builder William Willett came up with a different take on the idea he proposed setting the clocks forward 20 minutes each Sunday in April, then backward on Sundays in September. Builder William Willett kept arguing for the concept up until his death in 1915.
The first official and established use of this idea during World War II the German Empire and Austria-Hungary organized the first nationwide implementation, starting in 1916.
Following Germany's lead During world war II Britain passed an act on May 17, 1916, introducing British Summer Time and moving all clocks one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time during the summer months. British clocks are moved ahead by 80 minutes in four 20-minute increments. Many countries have used it at various times since then.

The real reasons daylight savings time is to make better use of natural daylight and save electricity. In the summer, our clocks are moved forward to extend an hour of daylight to the evening. if the sun is out “later” than traditional, fewer people can activate the lights in their home, and less electricity is consumed. During the months of summer, the clocks are moved an hour forward to prolong the exposure of daylight. This way, the ratio of using lights in homes and other places will be comparatively small.

Yes, Pakistan is one of the countries. It observed the Daylight Saving time on October, 31 in 2009 last time, which is no longer in use after then. Now it follows its Standard Time.
